Ahhh, beach life – how I love you and pine for you. BUT you cannot send those kids willy-nilly on to the sand unless they are properly swim-suited and booted so here are my Top 10 kids beach essentials for summer holidays.
Starting with to swim in. Now I know these swim shorts are rather expensive but come ON they are oh so amazing! By Orlebar Brown from Melijoe £110.
I am loving this swimsuit by M&S. Ticking both the gingham trend and the appliqué trend – this ticks my boxes. From £10.
Rash vests are here to stay. Now I have always been in the camp of keeping my kids out of the sun in the heat of the day. This is largely aided by iPads under umbrella situation with my kids now. But for smaller kids, or those that are into actually I.N.T.E.R.A.C.T.I.N.G. with the world around them – especially when you pay good money to take them somewhere lovely for a holiday…….aaaaaaaaaaargh…where was I – these ones work for me.
I’m not normally one for matching sets – I’m some form of setxorcist. However this one with it’s nautical navy and white stripes plus SPF 50 and a flash of neon yellow is a big YES from me. £49.50 JCrew.
This blue/white-painted wave SPF 50 rash vest from Next is great. Not only is it stylish, but if there is the inevitable spillage from the equally inevitable pasta in tomato sauce at lunchtime (or is that just my kids?) it will look like it’s part of the pattern. Win win. From £9 Next.
These two suncreams make up my sun arsenal. One because it’s pure and organic. Organic Children SPF 30 scent-free £17.50 from Green People.
The other because it makes my life easier to reapply when they are in-situ on the beach, sandy, wet – both and/or trying to run away from you – Lancaster Sun for Kids Invisible Mist Wet Skin Application SPF 50 £21 Feel Unique.
Now I don’t know about you, but I am up to HERE with having to schlep all my kids things on to the beach. Let’s get the involved with beach bags. For your little madam it has to be a basket. Of course involving pom poms. I like this one by Edit 58 £29.
This drawstring backpack bucket bag from Zara has a bit of Jackson Pollock and a lot of style £10.99.
My favourite sandals and the only ones that fit my kids and are stylish are Salt Water sandals. We buy them every year as they have great colours, are super comfy and best of all – take your kids from in and out the water, to out to supper – all the while looking stylish. These tan ones are the hottest colour for this season and unisex from £38 Salt Water Sandals UK.
And top the whole look off with some super stylish and super needed temporary tattoos. I like these ones as they are unisex and €6 Tattyoo.
So there you go my lovelies. Even though it’s cold here and you’re probably, like me, still stuffing your face with chocolate and crisps in some form of denial about a bikini body being needed rather soon – you can at least get your kids beach ready with this list. Get busy!
