Exclusive Kids Fashion Video Interview with Mère Soeur

Have you ever met someone who inspires you and depresses you at the same time? Meet Carrie-Anne Roberts. She’s a beautiful and achingly cool 26 year old mother to an equally gorgeous 18 month old boy called River, who is living her dream thanks to Instagram – having started out on the shop floor of Lush.

In 2015 she created Mère Soeur – a lifestyle brand dedicated to celebrating inspiring mums. Printing T-shirts and tote bags with slogans such as “Raising the Future” or “Mama Gang” we can thank her for putting the some of the sass back into sisterhood.

And finally, after a year of requests, she has created a line for 0-5 year olds. Inspired by her son, and creating clothes she wanted him to wear, the line is playful and cute but still super cool. As she says ” It’s the dream ensemble for a cheeky, curious short one with style.”

So now she is in the world of kids fashion, the time had come for me and my blog pal Anna Cascarina from Little Flea to chat to Carrie-Anne to find out about how it all started for her, how the kids line developed, the #mystory Instagram exhibition she was part of, and then there was an inevitable discussion about breastfeeding that, well, you need to watch.

Kidswear Buying Tips from the Top!

Now I don’t like to do things by halves darlings. No siree. I went straight to the TOP for you. The fabulous Torly Grimshawe – Head of Childrenswear at HARRODS shares her TOP TIPS for buying kids clothes with me. And now, you. Enjoy!

MOI: What’s your kids’ style mantra/rules? 

TORLY: Kids clothing should always be fun. Dressing up for children is a wonderful way to explore their identity whilst growing up and express their style, reflecting their individual personalities.

MOI: Have you seen a shift in people’s buying habits vis a vis designer kids clothes over the last few years?

TORLY: In recent years, we have seen a great emergence in prominent fashion houses expanding their ranges and creating beautiful children’s clothing. Customers have definitely responded to this and increasingly are investing in key seasonal pieces and buying into the high fashion trend led items which feature fabrics from many of the adult mainline RTW collections.

MOI: Which are your labels to watch?

TORLY: Marni childrenswear has just arrived at Harrods this season and is absolutely adorable. Block colour dresses and printed knitwear perfectly embody the fun spirit of the brand. We are also excited to see the development and growth of collection for Lanvin and Fendi, and strength of Chloe.

MOI: Which country would you say is the most style leading in terms of kidswear?

TORLY: French style is super chic, Dior’s collection is beautiful, Lanvin is divine and we are introducing Bonpoint this autumn. Whilst Italian children always seem amazingly well dressed and the country has produced some fantastic specialist children’s labels such as I Pinco Pallino, Monnalisa and Simonetta. We carry all these brands in store and I’m always impressed by the beautiful and stylish designs that they create each season.

MOI:  Do you believe in mixing it up – designer and high street?

TORLY: Absolutely, children grow so fast and whilst it’s great to invest in designer pieces for special occasions, it definitely makes sense to mix them with fun and affordable items from the high street.

MOI: How do you dress your own kids?

TORLY: I love to mix high street with fashion – Monnalisa and Pinco Pallino for my little girl for special occasions and Ralph Lauren is a must for the boys.

MOI: What sets Harrods kids department apart from other stores and department stores?

TORLY: This Autumn/Winter Childrenswear at Harrods will be expanded to over 66,000sq ft to create one of the largest destinations for mini fashion in the world. Situated on the Fourth Floor, Childrenswear will encompass eleven rooms which will be completely transformed!

MOI: What are your three key pieces for Autumn/Winter 2012?

Bubbelicious Delicious Part Deux

Ooooh my aching feet. I have worked it for you people let me tell you! Another super busy day for moi at Bubble London. I met with some fantastic brands – some new, some old, but common theme is STYLISH of course.

Had a great chat with Marie the owner of one of my super fave stores Little Fashion Gallery. She was in town to check things out. She was telling me about lots of exciting things happening soon for them – which of course I will share with you guys as soon as I can! Hot off the press bien sur.
