If I’m honest – which as you well know I always am – often to the point of foot in mouth – but whatevs – I never would have believed I’d be writing a blog title like this. Marie Chantal X good old M&S? Who’s have thought it? But boy, is it a thing, and boy is it good. Look here.
Marie-Chantal is married to Prince Pavlov of Greece. So we have that in common. We are both Princesses. Though obvs I’m not the real deal – it’s just a behavioural thing that I simply cannot help. But beyond that, she is the Founder and Creative Director of Marie-Chantal, her eponymous international childrenswear brand created in 2000.
And it’s beautiful. Very luxurious, but strikes that balance between what’s beautiful to look at, but that is comfortable and practical for kids. She believes “Style is all about dressing up” – and I agree.
To not sound too much like an old woman, though I know I will, kids today, don’t dress up like they used to – to visit grandparents, to go out. I kind of like it how it used to be.
So why M&S? Because it’s a nostalgic brand for her – truly British and one she actively sought out when she used to avidly shop at when in the UK when visiting from her home in Hong Kong as a child.
Princess Marie-Chantal’s 33 piece collection for M&S is clearly influenced by her brand’s design handwriting – the elegant detailing and playful twists that are synonymous with her designs are all there.
Designed for babies and children up to five years old (boo hoo my kids are 9), the range celebrates tradition and heritage. Luxurious fabrics such as cashmere, merino wool and silk have been used throughout, for premium, but ultimately comfortable pieces that kids and parents alike will love.
And don’t panic – you will be happy to know that the range is all machine washable. Which with kids is, of course, a total necessity. Especially mine.
