Luxury All Inclusive Family Holiday – Ikos Olivia

It’s a yucky time of year. Summer is equally as far behind us, as ahead of us. And it is cold. So cold. And bleak. Like ugh. I totally get why it’s now people either get busy booking summer holidays or topping themselves. So for this, I would like to be of assistance.

Summer is here. Now.

Last summer, we went to the Ikos Olivia Resort in Greece – a “Luxury, Gourmet All Inclusive resort”. Now, if you had ever mentioned the words ‘All Inclusive’ to me – I’d turn my nose up and say something along the lines of “Darling, I don’t do buffets”. So rather reluctantly I agreed to try All Inclusive out last summer as the resort had just opened and there were great deals. What was the worst thing that could happen?  I viewed it as an opportunity to lose weight whilst topping up my tan – not a disaster.

There are four a la carte restaurants to choose from (French, Italian, Asian and Greek) and then the Buffet – or in my world ‘no go’ – though according to people we met there was very very good.

There was also a BBQ by the pool every day, and every drink – from Coca Cola to cocktails, every snack, every morsel of food was included.  And the food was, as promised gourmet, and for two weeks, I didn’t do one buffet. Trust me – my larger thighs would confirm this.

This is such a good place to encourage fussy kids to taste new things. There is nothing more annoying than paying for a grown up sounding dish that your kid assures you they will definitely definitely DEFINITELY love and then they retch upon the first mouthful and you’ve just dropped £15/20 on it. If they don’t like something – never mind – get something else.

And after the meal – just get up and go. No bill. It’s a lovely parallel world to live in. I wish it were the same for shopping..

We had a two bedroom bungalow right above the beach – probably the best positioned room we have ever had at a hotel. It was well-appointed, though I feel that for some reason, the bathrooms were not as good as they should have been.

There are so many activities for kids with free watersports and kids clubs for every age – though GOD FORBID my kids would ever go to one!!! Why is it fair I have friends who’s kids skip to Kids Club and mine it’s like trip to the dentist however amazing the setup?! Whatever – sometimes you have to pick your battles eh?

There were shows after dinner every night. Now I am not one for this kind of thing, but the kids enjoyed it – maybe if nothing else, just as an excuse to stay up as late as humanly possible for 8 year olds.

So we basically blobbed for 2 weeks. We sat, we ate, we spa’d.

We did not leave the resort – although you can, as part of your all-inclusive package, though the rumours were that the restaurant outside the hotel was not as good as those within. Whatever, it was so very relaxing – everything was taken care of. And free. Well, in my mind free. In my husbands – he kept calculating whether he was getting a deal or not – which we worked out he did!

Ikos resorts are managed by the luxury family hotel stalwarts Sani. They totally know what they are doing as regards luxury family holidays.

There are currently two with plans afoot for seven more. I say get moving towards summer and get in the luxury all-inclusive state of mind. If I can, anyone can.
