What happens when you cross the ex head fashion designer for Betsey Johnson, Barbie and a 5 year old kid? The Tiny Frock Shop.
STYLISH BARBIES!!!! Once I saw this – I needed to know more more MORE. So I chatted to the owner.
Pamela Thompson – like many of us, had to re-evaluate her full on career in the fashion industry once she had her daughter Lily.
“I have always had a love for Barbie since I was a child and thought that opening a shop for Barbie would be a good way to take my 20+ years of fashion industry experience and apply it to a new fashion world: the world of fashion in 1:6 scale rather than 1:1 scale!”
Today she has created looks to reflect this seasons big 60’s mod trend!
She wanted to make her shop a place where Mums and kids could all come and buy affordable resale Barbie items styled in a Vogue editorial way. She creates and sells clothes that respresent the key trends of the runways of Paris, NY, London and Milan and offer them Barbie size. There is also a “Designer Collective” where contributing designers make a collection that is new and hand sewn and featured in the shop.
The shop is run by her 5 ½ year old daughter and CEO Lily and a staff of dolls, all which have their own jobs that are real jobs that exist in the fashion industry.
“The shop is a small microcosm of the actual fashion world in NYC but using dolls. I wanted to allow Mom’s and kids to see a real version of the fashion industry through the eyes of dolls.” I wonder is it’s as bitchy???
Plans are afoot to offer digital downloadable patterns so you can make your own clothes at home. I can’t sew the save my life but for those of you who are handy – result!
