Poor little Barbie. When I was a kid – she was the best gift any girl could dream of.
Today, however, with apps and iThis’ and iThat’s, rival brands trading on diversity and a backlash against what her supermodel proportioned body is doing for girls’ body image – she’s suffering. Step forward the Fash-pack.
We’ve already covered Jeremy Scott’s Moschino Barbie, and now, the amazing shoe designer Sophia Webster has got in on the action with a Barbie doll and a Barbie capsule shoe collection for women and girls. And it’s pinkalicious and super girlie. Look.
Where did she get her inspiration for her look for Barbie? “I just thought, if I was Barbie in east London, what would I want to wear?” explains Webster. Figures. Sad times are afoot when a doll has more style in her plastic little finger than I do in my whole body…
Sophia Webster was a natural choice for collaboration by Mattel given her pink, kitsch and girlie designs that have packed a style punch since she launched onto the scene almost 3 years ago.
There are three styles for girls in sizes 5.5-10 Junior with prices from £80. And six styles for women – here are my faves.
I’m thanking my lucky stars that my girls have feet too big for the kids ones and too small for the adults’.
The Barbie by Sophia Webster doll will be available to buy from mid-September on her website for £120, and comes with colourful hi-tops and flatform sandals alongside a couple of pairs of heels. The capsule shoe collection is available from Selfridges now now NOW. So get Barbie busy!
