Valentines Day is fast approaching. Ugh. I mean all that heart, lovey dovey, kissy kissy yuck. And my bitterness has N.O.T.H.I.N.G. to do with my husband ALWAYS forgetting OK? Nothing.
But let us nod to this ‘festival’ and talk about giving love in its purest form shall we? Charity.
The House of Bonpoint (fave FAVE brand ‘o’ mine and my girls, but more in a window shopping way…) has collaborated with the charity CSAO (Compagnie du Senegal et d’Afrique de l’Ouest) to create a limited edition line of bags and pouches from Liberty fabrics used in the SS17 Bonpoint collections.
The charity has been selling the work of artisans from West Africa since 1995. Pioneers in terms of fair trade, they have almost 70 embroiderers working in the area – most of them women who suffered from hardship and now find themselves in gainful employment.
Known for their cushions and embroidered African textiles, the CSAO pieces in this collection are an ode to the hazy days of summer – one in enhanced with yellow floral embroidery and the other with flowers and the inscriptions “love’ and ‘smile’ and the iconic Bonpoint cherry.
All the pieces are hand embroidered using century old techniques and each takes two days to make.
So if you are looking for a sustainable gift, that keeps on giving, these are for you. Now, THAT is love.
Available now at Bonpoint boutiques and from next week online. Prices from £36-£97.
